Xbox 360 Avatars and Dashboard Getting Facelift for Upcoming Kinect Invasion

While chatting it up with OXM Digital, Rare let slip that they’re remodeling the Xbox 360 Avatars to look more realistic, all thanks to Kinect. Apparently, the current Avatar design with its with its cartoonish proportions doesn’t quite work so well with the new motion technology. So, Rare plans to make the Avatars more realistic, that way they can be compatible in more Kinect enabled games.
The 360 dashboard will also be getting a facelift in time for Kinect’s release. Details are scarce and no word yet on when this overhaul will take place, but considering Kinect is being launched in the fall, I’d put money down on it being sometime around there.
As someone who couldn’t care less about whatever new doohickies Microsoft and Sony want to jam down our throats, my inital reaction was quite meh. However, the prospect of a redesigned dashboard does have me a little bit more curious. As for the Avatars, I’m still meh.
