Wolves and Achievements Coming to Minecraft

By Josh "Genki" Michaelson

Yesterday, Notch announced on his tumblr that he would be bringing wolves to his currently-seldom-updated game Minecraft. Said wolves can be tamed and become pets of the player, attacking enemies for them. That sounds pretty cool, actually. Especially if you can build an army of wolves. Notch says that they’ll be rare, though, so a wolf army might actually not happen. Crap…

Also inbound are good ‘ol Achieve-O’s. Not the tedious, stupid kinds like doing a task X amount of times. Instead, they’ll be more like “challenges.” There was also talk earlier about these achievements branching off into storylines of sorts. Basically giving you a chart to follow and create an adventure from it. Don’t know if that idea is still in the cards, but it would definitely be a cool thing to explore further. Maybe I’ll try playing it again. I mean, if he finally fixed the online component so I can play with my bros.

Of course, as usual we have no word of when these updates will take place. Hopefully sooner rather than later since Notch is talking about them now. But then again, this is Notch we’re talking about.
