Sony Pinching Pennies with the PS4

Okay so the whole “599 USD” thing certainly stifled a lot of people back when the PS3 came out, but can you really blame them on the price? The console itself amounts to a supercomputer and in that league 600 bucks is pretty damn good. Not to mention the Blu-Ray player which wasn’t cheap back in the 2006.

Now that Playstation 4 has been confirmed Sony Executive Vice President and Chief Financial officer Masaru Kato isn’t to keen to make it rain like they did last time.

“It is no longer thinkable to have a huge initial financial investment like that of the PS3.”

But is this a good idea? the PS3 is supposed to be on a 10 year life-cycle, and with Nintendo about to unveil their Wii successor next month and Microsoft sure to one up the 360, Sony is bound to have their fourth console released while the PS3 is still on the market. But hows that gonna go over if it’s not a major advancement to the previous system?
