Studio Ghibli game confirmed for western release
An interview with the president of developer Level-5 in the upcoming issue of Nintendo Power confirms that Ni no Kuni, the game being co-developped by the developer and Japanese animation studio Studio Ghibli, will be released in the U.S. While Level 5 does have an American presence (Dark Cloud, Professor Layton), many of their games have not been released stateside, making Ni no Kuni’s U.S. release far from certain.
That said, don’t expect to be playing Ni no Kuni any time soon. Currently the game is scheduled to be released on DS at the end of the year in Japan, followed by a graphically superior PS3 version months later. Hino said nothing about the timetable for the game’s western release.
In the interview, studio president Akihiro Hino also said that the studio hopes to bring some of their previously Japan-Only releases. Hino specificly mentioned Inazuma Eleven, a Soccer RPG. ”I don’t think it will that be long before you’re able to play these games,” said Hino. Inazuma eleven is wildly popular in Japan; a sequel has already been released in Japan, with a third on the way.
