New Legend of Zelda: The Skyward Sword revealed
Finally, the new Zelda has been announced, and it’s not coming in 2010. Instead, the game will be hitting sometime in 2011. As expected, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword uses Wii Motion Plus. As not expected though, its design is a gorgeous cross between Twilight Princess and The Wind Waker. Admittedly, the reveal trailer looked quite ugly, but the game looked absolutely beautiful once actual gameplay was shown. To describe it, I would like to say “Zelda on shrooms.”
Shigeru Miyamoto came out and demoed the game’s usage of Wii Motion Plus at the conference (with a typical Miyamoto grand entrance). His motions looked a bit behind what was displayed, but it might have been due to the streaming of the screen shown on our feeds. However, it was quite embarrassing in my opinion to see such a delay, albeit the blame put on interference. Miyamoto and his English compadre both assured that the game will be much smoother on the show floor, which I hope. I’ll be playing the game later, so then I’ll be able to give a complete impression then. Here’s the reveal trailer:
At an E3 roundtable discussion, Eiji Aonuma and Miyamoto gave some more quick hit information about the new Zelda:
-Art style was not developed until after last year’s concept art was revealed.
-HUD seen in today’s demo is removable.
-The game will feature a fully orchestrated soundtrack.
-The new maps in the game will be simplified compared to the old ones.
-The game won’t lose itself when you’re done pointing off the screen.
-Zelda will no longer be focusing on story and dungeons, instead it will focus on “fun.” Lame.
-When explaining Link’s suicide dive at the end of the trailer, Aonuma revealed that Link will actually be raised on a cloud called Skyloft. The basic story follows the premise that the land below the land of the sky is filled with evil, and it is Link’s job to save it.
