Microsoft may have lost Bungie, but they sure as hell won’t lose Halo
Earlier this year, Halo developer Bungie made it very clear that Halo: Reach would be “the last Halo game for a long time.” Sure enough, Bungie signed a deal with Activision for the exclusive rights to a new major franchise that would span over the next ten years. Now, the loss of Bungie as a de-facto Microsoft studio (Bungie hasn’t made a non-Halo game since Halo: Combat Evolved) is going to be bad enough for Microsoft, but for them to lose Halo – the franchise that, more than any other game or series, ensured the success of the Microsoft and the Xbox – well, that would be devastating…
Obviously they aren’t going to let it happen.
Today, Microsoft in-house development firm 343 studios posted a massive job board on their website looking for developers, designers, artists – basically everyone you need to make a video game – along with this image…
Yup, there’s going to be another Halo.
The board reads; “343 Industries is forging the future of Halo, expanding and building upon one of the most important and successful franchises in gaming history. Halo is a rich and exciting universe that encompasses AAA video games, New York Times best-selling novels, world-class animation and much, much more. Just you wait. 343 is set to revolutionize gaming and entertainment by putting the industry’s fiercest talent in one room and diving for cover. Come be part of the awesome.” The statement doesn’t say much about an actual new project… That’s not surprising. I wouldn’t be look for any further developments on this story any time soon, considering they don’t even a staff yet.
The bottom line – It’s not over yet Halo Fans. Get excited.
