“Capcom vs Namco” or “Namco vs Capcom”? Why not both?

A coded comment at EVO 2010 by Street Fighter 4 producer Yoshinori Ono and Tekken 6 producer Katsuhiro Harada may have been the first word of an epic new undertaking in the world of fighting games. Game Informer claims to have confirmed that the two producers will be working on a pair of franchise tag-team games, “Capcom vs Namco” and “Namco vs Capcom”?
Huh?
You read it right. According to the rumor, rather than working together on a single game Ono and Harada will each be working on their own version of the game for their respective studios, effectively drawing the developers themselves into the competition. The pair mentioned at EVO that they would be showing off a new fighting game at Comic-Con on July 24th. (Drop to the bottom to see the tease for yourself.) Game Informer claims that the debut will actually be for both “Namco vs Capcom” and “Capcom vs Namco.”
Now for the specifics… if you want to call them that. Supposedly the Capcom version, Capcom vs Namco, will use the Street FIghter IV engine, so it will look like SFIV and probably have a similar gameplay style as well. Meanwhile, the Namco version, Namco vs Capcom, will be built around the Tekken 6 engine so, assuming the gameplay follows suit, the game will feel very different.
Though this is not the first studio vs. studio game – Capcom made “Capcom vs SNK”, which later led to sequels/spin-offs from SNK as well – there has never been a dual studio/ dual game undertaking of this sort before. Though idea is far-fetched and by no means confirmed, (Hence the “Rumor” category) such an undertaking could breathe new life into a genre that has been, on the whole, stagnant for a long time. The good thing about a rumor like this is that it has finite time-limit: True or not, we’ll know the whole story when that trailer, whatever its for, is shown on Saturday.
Now: Question for you. Other than the Tekken cast, who would you put in your dream lineup for the Namco side of the game(s)?
